Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night-Rare Large Artist's Proof
Only a few left!
A rare chance to collect a large painting by Shizico Yi at the lowest price possible. We offer this rare Artist Proof ( Only 3 proofs in this large size ever made )
Taking on the inspiration of the legendary poet, Dylan Thomas, the poem, Do not go gentle into that good night, is a painting celebrates life in its ageing; as Rosa Albertine only flowers once in early Summer with the most festive blooms and heavenly scents, a symbol of a fully lived life.
About the Painting :
Painted Plein Air, in Artist's own garden of her very own planted memorial roses. This is Rosa Albertine, the first Old English variety Artist Shizico Yi planted in 2016 in her garden before her late dog died; Old English Roses are the rare ones that are scented but only flower once a year. This made it more endearing for Shizico anticipating their arrival each year. And excited by the smell which reminds her the scent of that summer when Favour, her late dog was still there in the garden with her.

About the Artwork:
This painting is Shizico's love letter to London!
Tube stations intricately map the recollections of Shizico's life over the past decades in London;
Sloane Square, echoing the Chelsea Flower Show and Saatchi Gallery, Piccadilly Circus, marking the Royal Academy and West End theatres, Leicester Square, embracing her most cherished National Gallery, Portrait Gallery, and Cassart for her art supplies,
disembarking at Pimlico, strolling through Chelsea College of Arts and Tate Britain, then boarding the Water-Bus to Tate Modern,
crossing the River Thames back to St. Paul station,
catching the Central line, the next stop... her studio, adorned with her Favor Memorial Garden, a sanctuary where art and memories intertwine.
This piece is part of the Spring Cat and Sunshine Factory Exhibition.
The paintings in this Exhibition aspire to push impressionism into the realms of Matisse, engaging in a bold visual language with colours and embracing the simplicity of lines and forms.
Shizico then ventured even closer to the language of Howard Hodgkin, grounding the new works in a lineage less concerned with realistic representation and more focused on the colours and the meaning embedded within the brushstrokes. The aim is to exalt the power of imaginary spaces.

To document the streets they've walked and her late dog's favourite trees, Shizico embarked on a series of Plein air paintings in autumn, the season when Favor died. The colours of the turning leaves symbolise our aging. Standing hours each day painting in the chilly London autumn air kept the artist alerted to one's vulnerability, yet, within the colours of nature, one finds the energy of restoration and allowing time to contemplate the memory of their decade-long walks.

Veronica and Hydrangea (in the painting) are the summer elements in her garden, Shizico cultivated these deciduous shrubs in 2015, and since, they blossom from late spring into November faithfully every year.
They are symbols of longevity and loyalty like old friends.
Alongside gardening, Shizico started a series of drawings and plain air paintings in this Memorial Garden, trying to keep the blooms and seasons frozen in time on canvas and paper.
Shizico Yi built this Memorial garden in memory of her beloved ones, her late 16 years old dog she lost in 2017, and her late partner who died in 2020. This painting is a part of the series, Summer Bloom.

Autumn in London Series no 7, Limited Edition of 30.
Size: 30 x 40 cm (11.8 inches x 15.7 inches)
To document the streets they've walked and her late dog's favourite trees, Shizico embarked on a series of Plein air paintings in autumn, the season when Favor died. The colours of the turning leaves symbolise our aging. Standing hours each day painting in the chilly London autumn air kept the artist alert to one's mortality, yet, within the colours of nature, one finds the energy of restoration and allowing time to contemplate the memory of their decade-long walks.

Only a few left!
This Special Deep-Box-Framed Deluxe Editions is Giclee printed onto an aluminium panel, with a matted tone echoing the gesso effect of the original painting.
Lady and Her Dog was the first painting Shizico was able to paint after Favor, her late dog-son, died. It took Shizu 100s of days to paint and work again after losing Favor. This painting is to relive the frozen moment of their embracing, based on a photo taken a month before Favor died. (2017)
The charcoal drawings of their hands holding and intertwined, the raw energy of the markings of Favor's coat contrast with the thick textured hairs of Shizu and the misty blue of the garment and the air around them. The contrast of these textures and colours describes the separation between two worlds, a universal feeling of human nature. Arts turn grief into a reunion through an artist's hands, making art to create a 3rd space beyond this synthetic universe we are living in.

Shizico's latest series explores the simple pleasure of drawing and the simplicity of forms. The key concept of the series is to document moments of contentment, finding pockets of silent joy in day-to-day living with the simple act of drawing in purer forms. The drawing style of this series goes back to the most basic, it's Shizico's attempt to find new visual language in her artmaking after years of dark period in her personal life.
Original painted in 2022; first Artist Proof made in Jan, 2023
