About the Artwork:
This painting is Shizico's love letter to London!
Tube stations intricately map the recollections of Shizico's life over the past decades in London;
Sloane Square, echoing the Chelsea Flower Show and Saatchi Gallery, Piccadilly Circus, marking the Royal Academy and West End theatres, Leicester Square, embracing her most cherished National Gallery, Portrait Gallery, and Cassart for her art supplies,
disembarking at Pimlico, strolling through Chelsea College of Arts and Tate Britain, then boarding the Water-Bus to Tate Modern,
crossing the River Thames back to St. Paul station,
catching the Central line, the next stop... her studio, adorned with her Favor Memorial Garden, a sanctuary where art and memories intertwine.
This piece is part of the Spring Cat and Sunshine Factory Exhibition.
The paintings in this Exhibition aspire to push impressionism into the realms of Matisse, engaging in a bold visual language with colours and embracing the simplicity of lines and forms.
Shizico then ventured even closer to the language of Howard Hodgkin, grounding the new works in a lineage less concerned with realistic representation and more focused on the colours and the meaning embedded within the brushstrokes. The aim is to exalt the power of imaginary spaces.
