Note 1: Loss, Repetition and the Everyday is Yi's doctoral thesis, exploring artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday. Drawing upon the resources of my cultural heritage, Yi experiments with synthesizing cross-cultural and cross historical forms. With further research into historical painting and printmaking traditions and contemporary visual artist like On Kawara, the thesis explore the tensions and exchanges between the aesthetic concerns of 'east' and 'west.'
Note 2: Zarida Zaman, the curator, included Yi's fine art sketchbook in this collection. The sketchbook is about my original research process and how I develop the research through drawings, watercolours, collages, and mark-makings. Find e-book version through the Bloomsbury website.
