These drawings of her garden are of Shizico's most intimate moments. The act of drawing is a direct way of contouring one's life; it is how she sees the world around her. Every line in a drawing is her way of touching each fine grain of a thing. Shizico believes that drawings contour a person's life like memory and what people do for one's life.
This drawing is the only drawing of Lupins she made in 2022. Lupins’ sculptural form provides a chance for Shizico to apply depth by layering charcoals and oil pastels on ink which is the visual discovery that Shizico has practiced since 2017.
Constant Gardener is an ongoing project in memory of Favor, her late dog. In 2015, Shizico started to make a garden for Favor to recover. After Favor died, this garden project becomes Favor Memorial Garden in memory of his precious presence. Alongside gardening, Shizico makes drawings and plain air paintings in Memorial Garden. It’s an attempt to keep the blooms and seasons frozen in time.
