A distinctive and signature element in Shizico's artistic repertoire is the use of gilded gold. This visual language becomes an instrument through which she plays with space, imparting an effect reminiscent of Japanese block prints and Kintsugi(金継ぎ), the art of "golden joinery." The incorporation of gilded gold adds a fresh language to the drawing, introducing another dimension that deepens the fascination inherent in Shizico's work.
After eight years, drawing inspiration from her latest series, Shizico employed gold as a device to create a new 3D space within the 2D canvas surface. In doing so, she unearthed the essence of this painting, conceived since 2016. Fast forward eight years later, Shizico has concluded her artistic exploration, achieving a harmonious interplay of golden hues and darker monotones in the background.
