About the painting
The painting depicts Sai Baba seated on a wooden throne adorned with gold, wearing a resplendent yet humble golden Sari, his gaze directed towards the sky as he is in deep meditation with open eyes, lost in contemplation.
Set against the backdrop of the Glasgow sky ( in its particular blue purple and pinkly layers),
Sai Baba sits in front of a sacred Neem Tree in blossoms, reminiscent of the one he often meditated under in Shirdi. The representation of Sai in the painting is derived from authentic photograph captured in his youth. The relaxed sitting posture, with his right leg slightly crossed over the left, is a blend of his real-life images, offering a reference to how he might sit. The placement of his hands in the Dhyana Hand Mudra a suggestion of a state of deep and inner meditation, with the bone structure based on Sai's actual hands from life pictures.
The gilded gold embellishments on Sai's sari and the golden clouds overhead symbolise his greatness and enlightenment. Proudly hand-painted at Sai's knee level, the Solanki Family's name is signifying the sense of stability and protection derived from Sai's spirit and teachings.
Embedded within the fabric of Sai's sacred attire are the most crucial elements of his teachings: faith (Shraddha) and patience (Saburi) are inscribed on the embroidery along the sari's edge. The translucent sari fabric serves as a symbol of timeless teachings, transcending the material realm.
