Shizico Yi embarked upon an odyssey in every spring to autumn to paint plein air, create paintings that transcended the boundaries of ordinary perception of landscape.
Although this painting started in summer 2021, it was finished in Shizico's Sunlit Series, a profound exploration centred around the captivating hue of yellow.
This painting had been through numerous stages, not one detail nor corner unturned. Shizu kept worked on and lived with the painting for a long period of time till it arrived to where she considered the painting comes to its own.
It is a testimony of the intimate relationship between the artist and her work; she never stop evolve a painting until she witness the "magical moment" each work has arrived with.
Her "Golden Period" project is an exploration of yellow, the colour she believes having the healing energy for people’s wellbeing. The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject and the artist herself.
Shizico's "Sunlit Series" meticulously crafted on all mediums, gold leaf gilding on her brushstrokes captured within a restrained palette of yellow, and mono palettes for each painting. With strokes of gold, gesso and acrylic, she orchestrates a symphony of artistic abstract expression upon this series of works.
Each painting in this series aims to capture a unique facet, where the golden hues engage in a dialogue with the layers of landscape at the background. The interplay of these contrasting elements upon the textured surface of gold leaves adds yet another layer of tactile fascination.

Dr. Shizico Yi is a London based artist, working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
