Cat with Dahlias-Prayer Series 2024
This original large gouache/ink drawing is a part of The Sunlit series
where Shizu delves into the healing power of the colour yellow, exploring its impact on individuals.
The pictorial language in this series pays homage to Japanese Woodblock prints.
Started in 2023, her Prayers series features ink on paper, where the cat serves as a symbol of innocence and peace. The bright dahlias and gladiolus, blooming in early autumn, stand out against the chill, embodying regeneration and hope.
This piece marks the beginning of the 2024 Cat in Nature series.
Each scene, including the cat and the surrounding flora, is painted in situ, directly from life. This self-imposed approach allows Shizico Yi to capture the fleeting energy of the moment, brings each drawing with a sense of immediacy and spontaneity.
