Summer Night- Summer Bloom Series
Summer Night is a part of The Summer Bloom Series, an ongoing project that Shizico Yi works on every summer in her garden.
This painting captures a view from the east end of the garden, looking towards the west gate where old giant trees frame wildflower areas on both sides. Shizico chose the colour blue to represent the night sky, reflecting her experience of painting plein air into the summer nights in her garden.
Her paintings stand as a testament to her imagination, bold and always evolving techniques and the profound inspiration she draws from her natural surroundings especially her own gardens where she grows plants and re-makes her very own landscape.

She began gardening in 2015 to create a large, healing space for her then ill, elderly dog. After her Labrador passed away, this memorial garden became a source of inspiration for her art and provided a place of solace as she coped with her grief.
This series of paintings stand as a testament to her imagination, bold and always evolving techniques and the profound inspiration she draws from her natural surroundings especially her own gardens where she grows plants and re-makes her very own landscape.
