Northern Lights I and II-Diptych-Drawing Time Series 2024
To Shizico, a diptych and triptych are visual prayers, a form of meditation.
They serves as a method to revisit moments, each time, with something fresh and rejuvenated. In her "Drawing Time" series, Shizico explores contrast and tones between materials and exercises the concept of witnessing time and translating into drawings/ Ink based works.
Renowned for her expressive drawing and its distinctive visual language, Shizico captures the raw essence of her artistic vision in this series. This special Diptych includes two original large ink drawings, created in early autumn when Dahlias and Cosmos take centre stage in Shizico’s carefully cultivated garden when everything else started to fade. To Shizico, Dahlias are the symbol of longevity and hope.
The set of 2 capture the view of her herbaceous borders, looking towards the west where Northern Lights activity graced the Glasgow sky in the night; for her, it’s the once in a life time moment.
Like a modern-day Monet, Shizico has built her own garden over the decade, reaping the rewards of her labour as it inspires her while serves as a living studio—where her art grows alongside nature and where she make her own kind of landscapes.
Through drawing, she documents and preserves the fleeting beauty of the seasons and the sweet memories it holds, froze in time on paper
