Triptych-Drawing Time-Gladiolus-Plein Air-Ink on paper
This special triptych includes three original large ink drawings, created by Shizico at early autumn when Dahlias and late Gladiolus still bloom fiercely in her carefully cultivated garden. The pictorial language in this series pays homage to Japanese Woodblock prints; she plants large quantity of Dahlias and Gladiolus so they would bloom in late summer and autumn to brighten up the garden into the early winter chill, to her, they symbolising regeneration and vitality and longevity.
Shizico Yi paints en plein air in her garden or on locations. She began gardening in 2015 to create a healing space for her elderly, ailing dog. After her Labrador passed away, this memorial garden became a wellspring of inspiration for her art—a place of solace and healing safe-space where grief and creativity intertwine.
Like a modern-day Monet, Shizico has built her own garden over the decade, reaping the rewards of her labour as it inspires her while serves as a living studio—where her art grows alongside nature and where she make her own kind of landscapes.
Renowned for her expressive drawing and its distinctive visual language, Shizico captures the raw essence of her artistic vision in these ink works.
Through these ink on papers, she documents and preserves the fleeting beauty of the seasons and the sweet memories it holds, froze in time on paper.
