About Summer Bloom Series:
Summer Bloom series began in 2022, where Shizico Yi celebrating the season by painting en plein air in her garden. This painting La Vie en Rose, is a part of the Summer Bloom series.
Shizico lost her beloved dog, Favor, after a four-year battle with the neurological disease in 2017. Shizico began gardening as a way to create a healing space for Favor. After his passing in 2017, the garden evolved into Favor Memorial Garden, dedicated to his precious presence.
This gardening project honour his memory, called Constant Gardener which started in 2015, continues to this day.
In the last decade, In addition to gardening, Shizico began creating a series of drawings and plein air paintings in this Memorial Garden, capturing the blooms and seasons to preserve them in time.
In 2024, Shizico embarks on a fresh chapter with her new rose garden. The first ten newly planted roses in her Memorial Garden project inspired this series of rose paintings.
Colours are the emotional device for Shizico in making these paintings, rather than roses and landscape's real-life hues. For instance, she painted the Double white roses in yellow hue, keeping the shrub's shape but transforming its colour.
This approach, while challenging, allows her to filter her view from reality to an imaginary landscape.
By painting colours this way, Shizico becomes highly sensitive to tones and shapes, rather than habitually matching colours to reality.
This self imposed technique gives her landscapes a touch of magical aura in this series of landscape of roses.

Set of Two-British Autumn Series-Plein air 2 oil paintings
Nothing beats a British Autumn 🍂 -- This pair is a special Set Offer, included 2 oil paintings of this series.
"Autumn Series" is one of the most personal projects of Shizico Yi; the sensitive colours, her signature expressive and confident brushstrokes are making the series an instant classic in Shizico's outstanding art career.
About Autumn Series:
To document the streets they've walked and her late dog's favourite trees, Shizico embarked on a series of Plein air paintings after her Labrador gone over to the rainbow bridge in early Autumn 2017. The project officially started in 2020 and continues in Autumn each year.
This is an enclosed corner with a pond at the basin level, embraced by rocky hills and European deciduous trees in Shizu's local heritage park, a safe haven for wildlife and offers a private corner for Shizico to paint and to contemplate.
The colours of the turning leaves symbolises aging. Standing hours each day painting plein air in chilly autumn air kept her alerted to one's vulnerability,
yet, within the colours of nature, Shizico finds the restorative energy which allows time and space to contemplate the sweet memory of loved ones who left us.
The colours of the turning leaves symbolised aging, it was smudged into the sky; under the misty autumn chill and the typical British weather, the trees take the backstage, allowing the colours to seep and dominate the space, the abstraction of the visual takes the traditional landscape genre into contemporary time.
Standing hours painting plein air in chilly autumn air kept the artist alerted to one's vulnerability, and each canvas in this series are the testimony of Shizico's tenacity and passion of Plein air painting. Within the colours of nature, Shizico finds the energy of restoration which allows her time to contemplate the sweet memory of loved ones who left.
This year, Shizico Yi focuses on a new approach which she paints the negative spaces rather than the positive forms as most artist would.

Summer Bloom in the Night-Large Oil-Gold leaf on canvas
This is a large original oil and gold leaf painting, its outstanding visual presence promises to bring huge impact to your space.
This painting captures the sky on a summer night, with moonlight glowing on her herbaceous border. For this series, Shizico adopted a new approach, painting in the colours she desired rather than the landscape's real-life hues. This method allows her to become highly sensitive to tones and shapes, rather than habitually matching colours to reality.
Gold leaf, one of her signature materials, symbolises not only the light and warmth of the season but also serves as a device for her to explore space and time in a two-dimensional language. These self-imposed directions—materials, colours, and concepts for each series—infuse her landscapes with a touch of magical aura.

Landscape Memories II 2024-Dahlias in Dusk-Sunlit Series
With strokes of Gold, Oil, Gesso and Acrylic, Shizico orchestrates a visual symphony of abstract expression in this on-going series [Landscape Memories]; it's a part of her [Sunlit Series] where she developed and explored with all sorts of mediums, in this case, gold leaf gilding brushstrokes layered with the landscape and skyscape of her homes and gardens on paintings in this series.
Shizico's unique approach to paintings in this series by erasing, rewriting and destroying the landscape in the background by painting bold strokes of gold leaf on the top layers. This concept of distraction becomes an integral part of the artwork exemplifies Shizico Yi's artistic vision.
Yellow is a colour she believes has the healing power for those afflicted by grief.
The golden hues engage in a dialogue with the layers of landscape in the background. The interplay of these contrasting elements upon the textured surface of gold leaves adds yet another layer of tactile fascination.
The result is a breath-taking testimony to the profound connection between the materials, the subject (the deeper meaning of the landscape and the memories), and the artist herself.

2024, she embarks on a fresh chapter with her new cottage garden, a major project that will take years to fully flourish. In the first summer of the new Memorial Garden, the avenue of 130-year-old trees surrounding it captivated her; this inspired Shizu to paint on a larger scale.

These ancient trees, with their towering heights, create a breath-taking canopy and carve the sky into intricate negative spaces,
Shizico decided a new approach which she focuses on painting these negative spaces rather than the positive forms.
This major shift allows her to explore the interplay of light and shadow in a new unique way, emphasizing the negative and positive spaces between the trees and the sky above.
In addition, Shizico treats colours as the device for emotion rather than in reality with this series. By painting colours this way, Shizico becomes highly sensitive to tones and shapes and a new sense of freedom arrived in the painting, giving her landscapes a touch of magical aura in this series of Summer Bloom landscapes.
This new series of paintings stand as a testament to her imagination, bold and always evolving techniques and the profound inspiration she draws from her natural surroundings especially her own gardens where she grows plants and re-makes her very own landscape.

Memory Landscape II 2024-Original Oil on canvas
The painting is the result of Shizico's creative journey in early 2024 when she had a moment of revelation inspired by Claude Monet's The Rouen Cathedral Series,

Landscape Memories VI-Original on Canvas-Abstract-Expression-Gold Leaf
With strokes of Gold, Oil, Gesso and Acrylic, Shizico orchestrates a symphony of artistic abstract expression in this series of works; Shizico's [Sunlit Series] is meticulously developed and explored on all mediums, in this case, gold leaf gilding brushstrokes captured a landscape of her homes and gardens for each painting.
Shizico's unique approach to completing the paintings in this series by erasing, rewriting and destroying the landscape in the background with bold brushstrokes of gold leaf on the top layers
This bold concept of distraction becomes an integral part of the artwork and thoroughly exemplifies Shizico Yi's artistic vision.
The [Sunlit Series] is a profound exploration of captivating yellow/gold leaf.

Magic Bell in Golden Sunlit-Originals Oil with Gold Leaf
Magic Bells is a part of her "Memory Landscape" Series. Shizico explores forms, layers, and time onto canvases.
In this outstanding painting, Shizico applied layers of materials ( Gold leaf, Oil, Acrylic and Gesso ) to create lyrical narratives, capturing the play of light across different moments of the day over many days.
Yi has captured light's nuances throughout the days in one canvas, condensed 100s of hours into one moment.
With her unique, confident and expressive brushstrokes, Yi captured the essence of her studio flowers with an enchanting charm that made her paintings beyond mere botanical representation.

Willow Pond in Autumn-Plein air Autumn project
In this series, Shizico Yi focuses on a new approach which she paints the negative spaces rather than the positive forms as most artist would.
Each stroke is the process of carve out the spaces around the outline of the objects whether is a tree, a flower or a leaf or a lake.
This shift allows her to explore the interplay of light and shadow in a new unique way, emphasizing the negative space between the plants and trees in relation with the the landscape/skylines around them;
by doing so, she is able to paint in the dark for the night scenes without having much nature light, she was able to capture the negative space without much difficulty in the dark.
This self imposed directions give her landscapes a touch of magical aura and a sense of freedom in her brushstrokes come with this new approach.
Her paintings stand as a testament to her imagination, bold and always evolving techniques and the profound inspiration she draws from her natural surroundings especially her own gardens where she grows plants and re-makes her very own landscape.

La Vie en Rose II-Summer Bloom Series 2024
In 2024, Shizico embarks on a fresh chapter with her new rose garden, which will take years to flourish. The first ten newly planted roses in her Memorial Garden project inspired this series of rose paintings.
Colours are the emotional device for Shizico in making these paintings, rather than roses and landscape's real-life hues. For instance, she painted the Double white roses
in yellow hue, keeping the shrub's shape but transforming its colour.

It is a testament to her creativity and willingness to push boundaries in advancing her visual language. Fundamentally, Shizico Yi’s practice is grounded in the history of art; her work is rooted in a lineage that spans from El Greco to Van Gogh to the eastern master like Hiroshige.
About Summer Bloom Series:
The Summer Bloom series began in 2022 when Shizico Yi celebrated the season by painting en plein air in her garden. In 2017, Shizico lost her beloved dog, Favor, after a four-year battle with neurological disease. Shizico began gardening in 2015 to create a healing space for Favor. After his passing, the garden evolved as Favor Memorial Garden, a tribute to his precious presence; she called the project Constant Gardener. The garden and this art project continue evolving to this day.
Alongside gardening, Shizico began creating a series of drawings and plein-air paintings in this garden, capturing the blooms and seasons to preserve them in time. Like a modern-day Monet, Shizico Yi is reaping the rewards of her labour as it inspires her while serving as a living studio, where her art grows alongside nature and where she makes her own kind of landscapes.

Rather than relying on photographs, Shizico paints life as the moments unfold, capturing consecutive mornings spent with her cherished cat, Sonny in a series of paintings and postcard projects.

Her Breakfast with Sonny Series invites viewers to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary, weaving together the essence of every day with the playful contours of her beloved cat.

Nostalgia-Dahlias in Pot-Drawing Time Series 2024
This special large Ink and Gold leaf on canvas created by Shizico in early autumn when Dahlias and cosmos take centre stage in her garden. The pictorial language in this series pays homage to Japanese Woodblock prints; Shizico employs Dahlias which bloom in late summer and autumn, brighten up the garden into the early winter chill, symbolising regeneration and hope and longevity.
This painting also challenges the genre of still life in contemporary art. It is a testament to Shizico's creativity and her willingness to push boundaries in advancing her visual language through various materials. Fundamentally grounded in the history of art, her work is rooted in a lineage that spans from El Greco to Hiroshige to Van Gogh.
Though it is a still life, each painting is deeply personal by focusing solely on the cut flowers Shizico cultivated in her own garden. This approach ties her work to the seasons and the fleeting moments of time. Each painting is a one-of-a-kind, seasonal creation—ephemeral and unrepeatable. Once completed, it captures a moment that is forever gone, making Shizico’s art uniquely rare and authentically tied to the essence of impermanence.
Renowned for her expressive Ink drawing and its distinctive visual language, Shizico captures the raw essence of her artistic vision in this painting with Gold Leaf and Ink on canvas; documents and preserves the fleeting beauty of the seasons and the sweet memories it holds, froze in time on paper.
Shizico Yi paints most of her paintings in situ en plein air in her garden or on locations. She began gardening in 2015 to create a healing space for her elderly, ailing dog. After her Labrador passed away, this memorial garden became a wellspring of inspiration for her art—a place of solace and healing safe-space where grief and creativity intertwine.
Like a modern-day Monet, Shizico has built her own garden over the decade, reaping the rewards of her labour as it inspires her while serves as a living studio—where her art grows alongside nature and where she make her own kind of landscapes, if to paint the flowers, they would be the ones cut from her garden then meticulously arranged (Ikebana) before painted on canvas or fineart paper.

About the series:
To document the streets they've walked and her late dog's favourite trees, Shizico embarked on a series of Plein air paintings in autumn after her Labrador died; Autumn is the season when her late-dog Favor gone over to the rainbow bridge.
This is the street view in front of her home, the avenue has been widely considered the most beautiful street around the area. Shizico Yi paints most of her paintings in situ en plein air in her garden and at the local landscape on locations. This the street view right by her garden gate.
The colours of the turning leaves symbolise aging. Standing hours painting in the chilly autumn air kept the artist alerted to one's vulnerability, yet, within the colours of nature, one finds the energy of restoration and allowing time to contemplate the sweet memory of loved ones who left us.
